Guide to Preparedness Now - Type of Emergency/Disaster Events

What kind of things happen in your region?  Given that natural disasters -  such as an earthquake, fire, flood, hurricane, tornado and winter storm - affect 1000's of people every year.

It is wise to know & understand the risks inherent in your area and to make a plan & a contingency plan to protect yourself and your family.  This is called a SWOT Analysis (Strengths and Weaknesses to identify Opportunities and Threats).

Emergency/Disaster Events can be divided into two categories:

  1. Those caused by "Mother-Nature" - such as tornados, floods, hurricanes, earthquake, storms, fires, etc.

    2.    Those cause by Human Activity - political and/or economic upheaval, terrorism, war, etc.

  • SHTF (Sh*t Hits the Fan) Scenario
  • TEOTWAWKI (The End of the World as We Know It) Scenario

The scope of the Emergency/Disaster Event could fall into four categories:
  1. Local Disasters - impacts your property and/or local community

  2. Regional Disasters - impacts specific regions of the country

  3. National Disasters - impacts entire nation

  4. Global Disasters - impacts entire planet

When emergency/disaster strikes regionally,  grocery stores  & big box home improvement stores will quickly be empty.  You know that even a slight chance of a weather event causes people to pick the grocery shelves clean.   You can imagine what it will be like during a catastrophe.   Becoming a prepper now will increase your chances of survival, so make plans & contingency plans for emergency/disasters.

The degree of your planning for an Emergency/Disaster Event determines on whether a one-week for a natural disaster or a one-year+ stockpile for when the SHTF is sufficient to survive.  Again, hope for the best while preparing for the worse.
