Guide to Preparedness Now - Basic 1st Aid Kit
 

 
Create two Basic 1st Aid Kits - keep one for every-day use and put the second one in your shelter.   Do not "borrow" supplies from the one in your shelter.    Take a Red Cross classes to learn to basic first aid.
 

  • Adhesive tape
  • Aluminum finger split
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Antiseptic solution and wet wipes
  • Bandage assorted sizes:

  3 x 4 sterile pads

  4 x 4 sterile gauze

  Ace Bandages (assorted sizes)

  Band-Aids (assorted sizes)

  Butterfly Kits (wound closure)

         Bandage assorted sizes (Con't):

  Band-Aids (assorted sizes)

  Butterfly Kits (wound closure)

  Feminine Pads (wound care)

  Medical Tape (waterproof is best)

  Mole skin (blisters)

  Non stick pads

  Sterile gloves (place in ziplock bag after opening)

  • Breathing barrier

  • Cotton balls and cotton-tipped swabs

  • Disposable non-latex examination gloves, several pairs

  • Duct tape

  • Elastic wrap bandages
  • Eye shield or pad
  • Eyewash solution
  • First-aid manual
  • Instant cold packs
  • Nonstick sterile bandages and roller gauze in assorted sizes
  • Petroleum jelly or other lubricant
  • Plastic bags, assorted sizes
  • Safety pins in assorted sizes
  • Scissors and tweezers
  • Soap or hand sanitizer
  • Syringe, medicine cup or spoon
  • Thermometer
  • Triangular bandage
  • Turkey baster or other bulb suction device for flushing wounds

 

  • Wound Care

      Anti-fungal Cream (athletes foot, jock itch, nail fungus)

      Anti-fungal Foot Powder (proper foot care is essential)

      Hydrocortisone Cream (relieves minor skin irritations, insect bites, poison ivy)

      Hydrogen Peroxide (topical and dental cleaner)

      Iodine (topic cleaner)

      Isopropyl Alcohol (topic cleaner)

      Saline Solution (eye wash, wound care)

      Triple Antibiotic (treats and prevents infections on skin from minor cuts)

      Zinc oxide and/or petroleum jelly (diaper rash, chaffing, protects skin)
