"Silent Night" a Christmas favorite was written by Joseph Mohr.  It was a Catholic priest who lived in an Austrian village.  He wrote the song in 1818.  In 1820, the organ in his small church could not be used because mice had chewed holes in the bellows.  The organist, Franz Gruber, set the poem to music so it could be sung on Christmas Eve with a guitar.
