Druids, in a time about two hundred year before the birth of Jesus, had the
habit of using mistletoe in the celebration of winter. They attributed powers of healing to mistletoe. Others,
primarily Scandinavians associated mistletoe with peace and harmony. They believed that mistletoe kept evil spirits
away. Early Christians wanted to adorn their churches and homes with mistletoe, but again due to its connection with the
pagans, they used holly instead. |
